Emi B, AC Interpretive Speeches Project 2 Interpreting Poetry – “The Highway Man” emotionally moved us in this winning reading of this famous poem.  Evaluated winningly by Rob M.

Table Topics of picnic memories and dreams brought by Karen R.

  • Michael M transport us to his ideal picnic in CA with his family reunion
  • Winning TT Casey colored the atmosphere with Red Rocks in CO in special concert
  • Deb hiked us along the river with her dogs in Zion National Park for her favorite site
  • DeeLynn packed her picnic basket with cold chicken, grapes, apples and nuts for her hike in Utah
  • Pablo H invited us all to a grilled Mexican fiesta for his favorite picnic
  • Michael H2 wanted baseball, fireworks and Cracker Jacks at his favorite event
  • Angel Y smilingly described the picnic necessities of a CA beach and her boyfriend as her favorite

Michael M, CC Project 3 Get to the Point – “Where is the Love?” called for respect for President James Madison reporting on his biography.  Winning evaluation by Mike B.

Rob M, CC Project 3 Get to the Point – “All in a Day’s Work” taught us in this winning speech a little of the regular day in the life of a firefighter.  Evaluated by Winona F-P.

Table Topics of summer memories brought by Pablo H

  • Karen’s recollection of Grease with its summer treats brought us some heat
  • DeeLynn got stuck in summer school – at a competitor’s school even!
  • Bill’s favorite summer movie was Rocky so he invited all outdoors for a tussle
  • Rahul won describing the white sandy beach in Vietnam while downing fresh summer seafood
  • Mike H2 almost got talked into singing as he shared his wild youth drinking at the bar
  • Liz stated the only worthy summer music is the Beach Boys and told us how she shared it

Alan H, CC – Project 5 Your Body Speaks in “The Jump,” airlifted us into his tale about sky diving as he unrolled the steps to learn how.  He included special places he jumped also.  Evaluation by Pablo R.

Kay D, CC “Your Teachers Were Right” discoursing on correct posture with its benefits.  Evaluation by Michael H.

Audrey D, CC Project 9 Persuade with Power – “Volunteer!” deflated 3 excuses (No time, talent or opportunity) for not doing this.  Then she shared websites to help us get started in a place we would enjoy.  Evaluated winningly by Liz S.

May 31st Speechathon

May 31, 2016 Speechathon at Sun Valley High School

We had some wonderful speeches but I can only give a few comments as I was evaluating Alan’s Icebreaker while we moved along.  Here are some highlights:

  • Emi instructed us on the Gatepoints of electrical flow through our bodies
  • Liz provided 5 Points of Evaluation2) Mention type of speech4) Tell what besides meeting the objectives was great about the speech
  • 5) Always provide a summary
  • 3) Provide a challenge
  • 1) State speaker’s name
  • Sheryl facilitated a discussion on what type of events could we provide to raise the level of our conversation with the nominations of:
  • Host a debate, join together at a bar, have another speech contest, party at a pool, try a bonfire, have a slumber party, travel in a Progressive Dinner (homes or restaurants), participate in a painting party, and finally bowl.
  • Alan told of traveling through 100 countries with the difficulty prejudice and hatred makes now for safe exchanges.
  • Rob demonstrated making Kefer and then handed out excellent instruction sheets on this probiotic
  • Michael H noted that in Marketing Toastmasters we think outside the boxServeGrow as we push ourselves in new areas
  • Pray – talk – reflect – meditate
  • Share our story
  • We share communication
  • Paul reminded us of important parts of listening
  • a) Reflect carefully watching our tone as we repeat back what we heard, b) validate the speaker, c) show empathy
  • Renee shared the excitement of meeting her great granddaughter
