  • “what is the coldest you’ve ever been?” DD replied in Snowflake but Chicago’s wind freezes too.

December 8, 2015 Maverick Club party

December 8 , 2015 Maverick Club party at Sun Valley High School – 23 in attendance

Presiding Officer Liz Shaw

We started late. The potluck was almost ready at 7 pm so those of us who arrived at 6:30 got to wait until  the unnamed arrived.  The partaking of the food consumed over 30 minutes.  Marvelous meatballs, asparagus and cheese wrapped in ham, luscious chicken, eggplant better than I’d ever made, Kentucky Fried chicken, are a smattering of what I can remember of main courses.

Luckily DJ brought an orange jello dessert with plastic spoons so we had one utensil to chow down with. We had a beautiful selection of cookies.  It was impossible to just eat one.

No prepared speeches

Table Topics of why our white elephant gift we opened was the best ever was completed by all.

  • Mike Becko shamed us into not stealing the fantastic Toastmaster wooden treasure chest opened by DJ Murray in the very first gift. I was sure tempted!
  • Items bringing laughter included the beer pong poster and scores of candles
  • Few magnificent items were stolen – just the Starbucks card, thick paperback
  • Kay had the most opportunities to upgrade her gift
  • No coal was given

Guest appearances

  • First-timer Parker, returning Kay D’Spain and Nidia Montijo (who submitted her paperwork to join!)
  • Wives of Pablo, Michael Millan, Rob McLeod, and David DeCelles were gorgeous in attendance

  • Toastmaster – Mike Becko
  • Grammarian – David DeCelles
  • Timer – Emi Bauer
  • Wordmaster – Rob McLeod brought us “magnificent”
  • Jokemaster – Karen Russ

Emi Bauer, AC – Storytelling:  Project 4 – The Touching Story, “The Brian Effect” shared a challenge in his winning speech of the effect a young man made after giving “only” one dollar (his last one) to World Vision for those children needing the basics of life. Evaluation by Michael Millan.

Rob McLoed, AC – Entertaining Speaker:  Project 5 – Speaking After Dinner , “Milk – It Does a Body Good? ” revealed an untasty tale of swill dairies through a bit of history winding through to how to obtain healthy effects from milk.  Winning evaluation by Liz Shaw.

Table Topics by Sheryl Ross with “Snow Stories”

  • Sweet snow memory of skiing shared by DeeLynn Southwick.
  • Worst snow scene provided by Pablo Rodriquez with flight to visit the In-laws challenges!
  • Kay D’Spain slid through her snow tale of her car simply not able to climb up the slick hill.
  • The funniest snow scene from Eula McLeod’s mind splashed the snowball directly into her relative’s face, but he managed to give back to Rob a thousand fold.
  • The scariest story was Michael Heier’s mustang spinning off the road and subsequent work to get back on the road. His car part slipped off during the spin, but in my story our carburetor froze while going down the road!

Guest appearances

  • Kay D’Spain, Eula McLeod and Nidia
